  1. She wants the gift of breathing freely. According to cleveland.com, "Ten-year-old Kira Johnson and her family in Avon are waiting for a phone call to pick up their already-packed to-go bags and rush down to Columbus for Kira’s double lung transplant. Once the organs are available, the surgery will take place at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Kira was with the Johnson family at a recent school fundraiser. With her was her mother, Ashley, and her aunt, Renee Schuster. Kira was born with pediatric pulmonary tension, said Schuster, who grew up in Avon. To follow Kira’s story or to make a donation, visit www.kindnessforkira.com, then scroll down past Upcoming Events and click on the “Learn More” link for more information." (cleveland.com)
  2. According to cleveland.com, "Avon Lake Board of Education members recently met with Dr. William D. Waidelich, a board and management services consultant with the Ohio School Boards Association, to discuss the school district’s search for a new superintendent. Current Superintendent Bob Scott will be retiring in about six months, and the board wanted advice on the process of selecting his successor, as there hasn’t been a new superintendent in 18 years." (cleveland.com)
  3. Do you want to add a new member to your family? Look no further than these Avon-Avon Lake animal shelters for a pet available for adoption. Animal shelters in the Avon-Avon Lake area have dogs, cats and other kinds of pets ready and waiting to be adopted. On a search for an adorable new companion? Consider beginning at a local animal shelter like Friendship Animal Protective League, where Daisy the cat is waiting patiently. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed. Here at Patch, with a little help from our friends at Petfinder, we put together a list each week of all the pets recently put up for adoption in your area. If you're a cat person, meet Duncan, a Domestic Short Hair up for adoption. Or if dogs are more your thing, there are several great dogs available, too. (Avon-Avon Lake Patch)
