  1. After 14 years, a veteran member of the Avon Schools Board of Education is resigning. According to a Facebook post on the Support Avon Schools page, "during the Dec. 20 meeting of the Avon Local Schools Board of Education (BOE), members voted to accept the resignation of Art Goforth, effective January 31. He was appointed in October 2008. He has also served as Avon’s representative to the Lorain County Joint Vocational School (JVS) Board since January 2009. In his letter submitted to BOE members, Goforth noted his ‘work with the board and administrative team at the Avon Local Schools has been exceptionally rewarding and fulfilling. The skills, qualifications, and dedication of board leadership, board members, school administration, and every district employee, assisted with my decision to leave with complete confidence in the continued excellent management and operation of the district."' 2. Apparently, 2023 is going to be a very good year for foodies in the Cleveland area. A bevy of new eateries are set to open in the next few days, weeks and months. Check out the full list here! Hope you find a place you like! (Cleveland Scene)
  3. If you’re looking to add a four-legged ball of love and affection to your household, you should check out these Avon-Avon Lake area animal shelters for a pet up for adoption. Millions of companion animals are given to adoption facilities each year nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However, only around half of all these animals are adopted each year, ASPCA data shows. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Avon-Avon Lake area — are still waiting for their forever homes. (Avon-Avon Lake Patch)

  • Cleveland Clinic: "Katy was 28 years old when she learned she had an aggressive brain cancer.⁣ ⁣ She joined a clinical trial for a vaccine designed to control tumor growth and delay recurrence of disease.⁣ ⁣Not only has it worked, but it's given Katy a chance to become a mom." • FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc.: "Meet Phoebe! Phoebe is one of 16 palliative care dogs FIDO’s cares for. Phoebe was taken into foster in 2018. She has numerous skin issues like rashes and sores and alopecia which causes her to lose her fur. She’s been to a vet that specializes in allergies and now takes Atopicia and prednisone, uses a topical cream and spray and eats special food. She also needs her ears cleaned every other day to prevent ear infections.
Phoebe also has chronic UTIs and urinary issues. Dr. Nicole at West Park Animal Hospital prescribed Benazepril and a probiotic to help lessen the frequency. Despite all of these issues, Phoebe is a very happy house hippo. She loves going for walks with her fosters resident dogs and neighbors love her and watch for her to be out and about. Her fosters spoil her and let her get away with more than their other dogs." (FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc. via Facebook)
