How Much Do You Know About Canton?

Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Canton so special.

Canton is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Canton has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Canton is known as the birthplace of the NFL because the league was founded in the city's downtown in 1920. Visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame, located in Canton, to learn about the history of football and see some of the greatest players of all time.
  • The Canton Classic Car Museum features over 45 classic and rare vehicles, including a 1917 Model T ambulance used in World War I and the 1957 "Spirit of America" Corvette that broke the land-speed record. Though the museum has temporarily closed due to COVID, it is expected to reopen to the public in spring 2023.
  • The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum is named after William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, who was from Canton. The museum features exhibits on McKinley's life, as well as science, industry and the history of the Stark County area.
  • Canton is just a day trip away from the largest indoor water park resort in the midwest, Kalahari Resort. Enjoy the tropical atmosphere and thrilling water slides year-round, along with other fun activities like mini-golf, an arcade and spa treatments.
  • Canton has a thriving food scene, with a range of local restaurants serving up everything from classic American fare to international cuisine. Check out places like Bender's Tavern, Basil Asian Bistro and the Canton Brewing Company for a delicious meal.
