Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Stark County Student
Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom
Olive Welch, of Massillon, was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for November in recognition of her hard work and leadership in the online classroom.
Olive, a second grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Mrs. Cheek, because of her hard work and the positive attitude that Olive brings to the virtual classroom.
As a Star Student, Olive will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media platforms. Each month during the school year OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Olive and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”
Olive came to Ohio Connections Academy in 2020 to be in a more individualized academic setting where they would have more schedule flexibility. According to her mother, Christine, they appreciate the positive and open line of communication they have with Olive’s teachers – especially the morning meetings that help to get the day started.

Virtual school is a great fit for a variety of students and each student is unique.
