73 Arrested for Underage Drinking at 'Large Amish Party' in Ohio

More than 70 people were arrested at a weekend party in Ohio Amish country, officials say.

MILLERSBURG, OH — The Amish know how to throw a party! More than 70 Amish were arrested Saturday night located in a field off County Road 400. Investigators say that 73 people, including 35 juveniles were taken into custody and charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Holmes County sheriff's office was contacted by concerned parents. The party was said to attract over 1,000 Amish from Ohio and neighboring states.

Daily Record of Wooster reports that some also face charges of resisting arrest, and two were taken to a hospital for alcohol related-illness.

Resources from Holmes, Coshocton, Carroll, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties, as well as the Wooster Post of the State Highway Patrol, Millersburg Police Department and Holmes Fire District No. 1 assisted with breaking up the party.

The Daily record also reports that this is not the first time Amish youth had a run-in with the law. This past May, five juveniles were arrested in neighboring Wayne County for similar behavior. A resident complained of loud music coming from a home. When the Wayne County Sheriff's deputies arrived they found close to 30 people partying in a nearby wooded lot. Amish buggies and alcohol containers were found. Most of the attendees fled but five were apprehended and arrested for underage alcohol consumption.
