Avoid 'Dangerous' Ice Drifts On Lake Erie: Forecast

"Areas of ice remain along the Lake Erie shoreline and this ice will remain dangerous," the National Weather Service said.

CLEVELAND — The ice atop Lake Erie is unstable and dangerous, the National Weather Service warned Monday.

"Anyone who ventures out onto the ice could become stranded with little warning if the ice separates from the shore. The ice could crumble causing anyone trapped to enter the frigid waters of Lake Erie. Drowning from cold water shock is possible for anyone entering the near freezing water. Stay safe and stay on shore," the agency said in a statement.

Winds could also cause chunks of ice to detach and float into open waters, the agency added.
