Bishop Anthony Pilla Funeral To Be Streamed Live

As Northeast Ohio Catholics mourn the former leader of the Cleveland Diocese, the funeral mass will be shared online.

CLEVELAND — The funeral mass for Bishop Anthony Pilla will be streamed online on Tuesday morning.

Pilla died Sept. 21 at his home. He was 88. He will be interred in Resurrection Chapel, the final resting place of several Cleveland bishops.

The funeral will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and will be streamed live. It will also be archived on the Cleveland Diocese's website. The funeral can be seen here.

"In my short time as the bishop of Cleveland I came to know Bishop Pilla as a very warm, kind-hearted and deeply faithful shepherd, always dedicated to the people of the diocese. He was generous with his time and sharing his knowledge and concern for the diocese with me," said Bishop Edward Malesic after Pilla's passing.

Vespers for Pilla were held Monday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and were attended by several former Cleveland Catholic luminaries, including Philadelphia Archbishop Nelson Perez, who served as Cleveland’s 11th bishop 2017-2020, and Bishop Neal Buckon, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, a former priest of the Cleveland Diocese.
