BREAKING: Judge Permanently Blocks Ohio Law to Defund Planned Parenthood
A federal judge in Ohio sided with Planned Parenthood on Friday.

COLUMBUS, OH — U.S. District Judge Michael Barrett ruled on Friday that Ohio's law to divert public funding away from Planned Parenthood would cause the group "irreparable injury."
Friday's ruling comes after two extensions, the first granted in May by Barrett.
More than $1.4 million in funding that Planned Parenthood receives from the Ohio Health Department was at stake. The federal money was used to support education and prevention programs.

The Ohio law signed by Gov. John Kasich in February while he was running for president would take state funding away from organizations that perform abortions. Planned Parenthood sued, arguing that the law was unconstitutional.
Barrett sided with Planned Parenthood and granted a permanent injunction that prevents Ohio officials from enforcing the law.

Planned Parenthood's attorneys argued that Ohio's law was unconstitutional because it requires that in order to receive federal funds, recipients had to give up constitutionally protected rights to free speech and to provide abortion services, reports ABC News.
