This Stadium Isn't Good Enough For The Cleveland Browns Anymore

1) Cleveland Browns ownership is planning for a new billion-dollar enclosed stadium as part of a lakefront redevelopment that would feature housing, office space, retail and a soccer stadium, as well as dining, drinking and entertainment venues, Ken Prendergast reported for NEOtrans Blog on Friday in a story everybody is chasing.
Why a new stadium when FirstEnergy Stadium is only 23 years old?
- The Haslams are unhappy with how FirstEnergy is aging and the upkeep needed. Sources told NEOtrans blog that the stadium was poorly constructed.
- A modern, enclosed stadium could handle dozens of non-football events per year, including annual Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame concerts and inductions. Currently, just 10 to 12 events take place per year at the Browns stadium.
- There is a lot of undeveloped land on the lakefront that could turn the area into a thriving, economically powerful destination.
- The team is eyeballing two locations: the site of Cleveland's Main Post Office, 2400 Orange Ave., and vacant land east of the central business district, north of St. Clair Avenue, between East 13th and East 17th streets.
- On the flip side, reports Cleveland.com, public funding would be necessary for a new stadium and Cleveland is the poorest big city in the United States.

2) The 2019 Cleveland Police Officer Of The Year is under investigation for anti-Semitic tweets. Ismail Quran, hired in 2018, has been reassigned to administrative duties while the office of internal affairs investigates. The tweets were brought to light by the Canary Mission, a controversial organization that publicized alleged anti-Jewish hate statements by journalists, academics and others. Before Quran became a police officer, Canary Mission said he tweeted slurs such as Let me salute Hitler, Jews run the world and Scumbag Yahoodi, among others. A police spokeswoman issued this statement: "The Cleveland Division of Police insists that officers provide the highest levels of professionalism and respect to all citizens. Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated."

3) East Cleveland firefighters rescued nine puppies from a collapsed garage and 90-degree heat last week after the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter sought their help. The mama dog was seen going in and out of the collapsed garage. "Unable to gain access ourselves, we called in ECFD for help and we were all able to retrieve all the pups safely! It was a lot of teamwork in 90 degree heat and we couldn't be more appreciative," the animal shelter reps wrote on Facebook. They are still looking for the mama dog.
4) American Coaster Enthusiasts named the Blue Streak Roller Coaster at Cedar Point an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark on Monday. The coaster, which debuted in 1964, is one of only 46 in the world to earn the designation. The classic wooden roller coaster takes passengers 78 feet into the air and sends them on a 90-second ride at a top speed of 40 mph.

5) Donte Ferguson, who co-founded Cleveland's notorious Heartless Felons gang, is now in federal custody after authorities saw Instagram video of him shooting three firearms at a Parma gun range. As a convicted felon, Ferguson cannot possess a firearm. Ferguson was recently shot in the middle of the day in Cleveland's Collinwood-Nottingham neighborhood. Police say the Heartless Felons have a record of murder, robbery, rape, drug trafficking, money laundering and other crimes.
