- Cleveland Police Commander Brandon Kutz is spearheading the current expansion of ShotSpotter in the city. ShotSpotter is an acoustic gunshot detection system that uses sensors and trained audio experts to determine if a shot has been fired, identifies a precise location, identifies the type of weapon, and alerts officers in under 60 seconds. According to Cleveland police, felonious assaults with a firearm went up 25 percent citywide from 2020 to 2021 but decreased by six percent in the area covered by ShotSpotter. Kutz said it is a "good system and we are catching a lot of gunfire on there that we had not known about before." (Spectrum News 1)
- Ray McNiece, the poet laureate of Cleveland Heights, is working on his "Poem for Cleveland" project, a series of collaborative workshops that will culminate in an anthology release this summer. McNiece, a Cleveland native, received a grant from the Academy of American Poets to fund the project and hopes the anthology will inspire Clevelanders. (Cleveland.com)
- Cleveland police are investigating a double shooting in the Lee Harvard neighborhood of Cleveland's East Side. Yesterday, Jan. 3, at around 3:00 p.m., two women were shot in the 16000 block of Throckley Avenue. No additional information, including the condition of the victims, is known as of yesterday evening. (Cleveland 19 News)

- The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has reduced admission prices for all guests as renovations continue. The museum finished its first wave of upgrades in early December and the second phase of renovations is underway. Admission prices will be discounted until renovations are complete. (Cleveland.com)
- A Cleveland high school robotics team designed a custom prosthetic arm for a 13-year-old amputee in Ecuador! The Greater Cleveland FIRST Robotics Initiative, a robotics
team comprised of students from four Cleveland Municipal School District high schools, designed, assembled, and tested an artificial arm before it was delivered to Samantha Chango. Samantha is a 13-year-old girl in Ecuador who had her left arm amputated as a result of a bus accident.
