Cleveland Student Recognized for Community Service

Online school celebrates students making positive impact in their community

Fiona Tsang of Cleveland, was among the three Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) students to receive recognition for their volunteer service and commitment to making difference in their community. Fiona, a junior, was presented with Ohio Connections Academy’s Community Service Recognition Award, for volunteering her time to tutor students and supporting teachers at a local afterschool enrichment program.

Fiona has been an active volunteer at the Bridge Road International Youth Group for almost two years. She most recently taught an online geometry class for middle school students and helps with training sessions for new teachers. She also helped create several videos to showcase what students and teachers accomplished through the courses.

“I have done community service through a few different organizations since I was in elementary school, so volunteering is an almost integral part of my life now,” Fiona said. “I am often inspired to do more ongoing service, and in particular, the time that I have spent with BRI Youth Group has motivated me to find ways to engage in a much larger variety of volunteer activities.”

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are so proud of these students and the time and effort they have given to make a positive impact on their communities,” Marie Hanna, OCA Superintendent said. “Each of the students have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and a commitment to making our world a better place – they truly deserve this recognition.”
