  1. Yesterday, Jan. 5, John Pelton, a 55-year-old former Cleveland Public Power employee, was sentenced to two years on federal probation and must pay a $5,000 fine for trying to obtain sensitive information from computers that controlled the city's power grid. Pelton had plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempting to access a protected computer and a felony charge of lying to the FBI. (Subscription: Cleveland.com)
  2. Northeast Ohio doctors are concerned about a new COVID-19 variant (variant XBB.1.5) and many are bracing for a possible surge. Dr. Daniel Rhoads, head of microbiology at Cleveland Clinic, said, "The data that we do have does suggest that it's spreading quickly, more quickly than other variants." Dr. Rhoads also said people can catch this variant even if they have the vaccine and have had COVID-19 prior. (WKYC)
