Want to Adopt a Dog Rescued From the Louisiana Floods? Here’s Your Chance!
The Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village received 27 dogs and puppies from the Atlanta Humane Society from the flood waters of Louisiana.

The Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village received 27 dogs and puppies Tuesday afternoon from the Atlanta Humane Society from the flood waters of Louisiana. The floods displaced thousands of animals according to Rescue Village Executive Director Hope Brustein.
Originally rescued by Arcadiana Animal Aid in Lafayette, Louisiana, the dogs were transported to Atlanta and then onto Cleveland where Rescue Village has the space, staff and programming to handle the additional animals. The Atlanta Humane partners with Rescue Village in Geauga County. "We are part of what I like to call the railroad rescue of animals moving to different parts of the country where they can be assured the kind of care they need, a second chance and good homes," Brustein said.

The dogs were checked for microchips and tags prior to accepting at Rescue Village. The rescue group did not want to interfere with reconnecting the dogs with their owners. "The first option is to reunite animals with their owners," Brustein said.

The dogs went through medical exams, treatments, and behavioral assessment before adopting out.
"Every one of these animals that's adoptable, they're going to need really good homes. And the people who adopt them will always know they not only changed their own lives or these animals' lives, but they've helped the people of Louisiana," Brustein said.
