@TowerLightsCLE Twitter Account Survives Sale of Terminal Tower

The popular Twitter account will shine on after the sale of the iconic Cleveland landmark.

CLEVELAND, OH — Sadness swept over the Cleveland Twitter community earlier this week when the @TowerLightsCLE account made its final post. At 8:27 p.m. on Sept. 12, the account posted, "The request lines are closed! For now... Thank you! #PEACE! . *drops the mic and exits the stage....*"

The possibility that the account would go dark was floated in August when it was learned that the iconic Terminal Tower — the building that the @TowerLightsCLE Twitter account personifies — was being sold to K&D Group Inc.

The sale of the tower to K&D was finalized on Thursday for $38.5 million. Cleveland.com reports that new plans for the building include mixed-use redevelopment, including 293 apartments on the lower 12 floors and a major headquarters relocation.

One thing that K&D did not plan for, however, was the reaction people had when the company learned that the building's Twitter account would be retired. "We didn't even know it existed," K&D CEO Doug Price told cleveland.com.

The Twitter account is clearly a Cleveland favorite, boasting 30.2 thousand followers — something that was hard for the new owners of the building to ignore.

Fortunately, K&D has granted a retweet to the account, so @TowerLightsCLE will live on. Arrangements have been made to transfer the account and control of a website which will allow visitors to make lighting requests for different occasions and events.

The Twitter account will be the same as before but may undergo a slight personality change, reports cleveland.com. @TowerLightsCLE welcomed the transition with the tweets below Thursday night and Friday morning:
