USS Cleveland Lego Replica Unveiled at the Great Lakes Science Center

Cleveland Celebrates USS Cleveland (LCS 31) With Mayoral Proclamation on '3-1 DAY'

Mayor Justin Bibb announced Saturday that March 1st will be officially recognized as “USS Cleveland Day” to honor the commissioning of the USS Cleveland (LCS 31), a Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship and the fourth U.S. Navy vessel to bear the city’s name. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Great Lakes Science Center, marking a historic milestone as Cleveland becomes the first city to host the commissioning of a naval vessel in the state of Ohio.

“The people of Northeast Ohio and the Greater Cleveland community take immense pride in
standing behind our service members, and the USS Cleveland Legacy Foundation will ensure
that this support extends well beyond commissioning,” Mayor Bibb said. “This day will serve as
a reminder of our community’s enduring relationship with the Navy and our gratitude for those
who serve aboard this great ship.”

The press conference also featured a commissioning of the LEGO Model USS Cleveland, which
is on display for the public at the Great Lakes Science Center.

“We love that we could help the USS Cleveland Foundation make this important new ship come
to life in LEGO,” said Great Lakes Science Center President & CEO Kirsten Ellenbogen. “What
a perfect mix of creativity and engineering. It’s such an inspiration for the hundreds of thousands
that come to the Science Center every year!”

As the excitement builds, the USS Cleveland Legacy Foundation (USSCLF) is focusing its
efforts on the commissioning of the USS Cleveland (LCS 31) in fall 2025. The weeklong
celebration in the City of Cleveland is expected to draw over 20,000 individuals and highlight the
city’s vibrant culture, reinforcing Cleveland’s standing as a community looking forward to the
future with pride and determination.

Mrs. Robyn Modly, the ship’s sponsor, concluded the event by encouraging the public to
support the USSCLF’s mission through donations and volunteer opportunities. “This mission
cannot be accomplished alone,” Modly said. “Through the generosity of this community, we can
ensure that the crew of the USS Cleveland always feels connected to Northeast Ohio, no matter
where their service takes them.”

Commissioning Week will showcase Northeast Ohio’s hospitality and military support, drawing
visitors from across the nation. The future USS Cleveland (LCS 31) is a Freedom-variant Littoral
Combat Ship (LCS). These ships are fast, mission-tailored platforms designed for near-shore
3/1 Day Press Release and open-ocean operations and play a key role in the Navy’s forward presence, maritime security, and national defense.
