University officials are yet to issue a statement on the incident, but in an email sent to the Buckeye community on Saturday, President Michael V. Drake said that over the past few days, "we have heard deeply disturbing reports of verbal assaults on students and others at a wide range of institutions, from middle schools to universities across the country, including our own campus."

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive, welcoming and ultimately safe place for people and ideas from all corners of our society and all around the world. It is in fact the collective sum of our experiences and backgrounds that makes us so strong.
Over these past few days, we have heard deeply disturbing reports of verbal assaults on students and others at a wide range of institutions, from middle schools to universities across the country, including our own campus. We protect First Amendment rights actively, but we do not under any circumstances tolerate intimidation or threats to students, faculty, staff or visitors to our campus. If you are subjected to or witness any such acts, please notify The Ohio State University Department of Public Safety at 614-292-2121 (9-1-1 in an emergency) or the Office of Student Life at 614-688-5664.
Our strength and resiliency derive from our ability to adapt to changes in the fabric of society, organize and align our behaviors and work together to make a better world. Times of great stress challenge our skill set. Let us rise to that challenge. Let us resolve to do our best to move forward to a brighter tomorrow. Let us resolve to do this together.
