74 Cleveland Heights Homes Involved in Massive Mortgage Fraud Scheme

Two men who orchestrated the fraud pleaded guilty in court Wednesday

Two men pleaded guilty in Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court Wednesday to a massive mortgage fraud scheme that includes $44 million in fraudulent loans and $31 million in profits.

More than 450 homes were involved, 74 of them in Cleveland Heights. Uri Gofman, 39, of Beachwood, faces up to eight years and three months in prison, and will be sentenced Feb. 1. Anthony Capuozzo, 41, of Concord Township, will begin his one year prison sentence Jan. 10 in addition to the 26 month federal sentence he already received.
