Updated: Cleveland Heights City Council Will Appoint Jason Stein at Tonight's Meeting
Mayor Ed Kelley confirmed that Stein would replace former Council Member Mark Tumeo

Jason Stein will be appointed member of Cleveland Heights City Council at tonight's regular meeting.
Stein announced on his Facebook page Sunday night that Mayor Ed Kelley told him he would be officially appointed at the meeting.Β

"I am happy to announce that Cleveland Heightsβ Mayor, Ed Kelley has notified me that I will be appointed to the Cleveland Heights City Council tomorrow, Monday June 6 at 7:30 PM. Everyone is invited and I hope to see you all there," Stein wrote on his Facebook wall.Β
Stein was among six candidates interviewed who applied for 's seat. Tumeo in March and officially resigned May 17.Β

Kelley said that Stein brings financial knowledge and more diversity to council.Β
"All of the candidates interviewed very well, and would have brought strong skills to council, but Jason brings finaical expertise, heβs a homegrown product, heβs done a lot of work in the community, and Β he brings a younger perspective to council," Kelley said. "Jason also adds to the diversity of council. Just as Mark Tumeo was the first openly gay member of council, Jason may very well be the first Orthodox Jewish member of council."Β
Stein and Jill Cohn, Jeff Coryell, Mary Dunbar, Michael Gaynier and Anthony Stevenson , and Kelley said last week that someone would likely be appointed at one of the June council meetings.
Stein will take over Tumeo's role until Dec. 31, but must be re-elected in November to finish out his term, which ends Dec. 31, 2013.Β
