Cleveland Heights Police Launch Twitter Account

Cleveland Heights Tweeps, I’ve got an early #FF for you.

The has launched a Twitter account to send the public non-emergency information.

The department’s Twitter name is “clvhtspolice” and its profile describes its purpose: “Putting the Police closer to the community they serve.”

The department has tweeted, or sent a message, once so far. "'Meet Your Police' - Every Thursday from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Lower level cafeteria. ."

, as the tweet describes, is a weekly public meeting the department hosts for residents to share their concerns with police officials, either in a group forum or privately. 

Police Chief Jeffrey Robertson said in an interview last week that one of his priorities was to form a better relationship between police and citizens.

At that time, he was not sure whether the department would pursue social media, but he wanted to promote the meetings as attendance has declined .

“As a police department, you got to have input from the community as to what is occurring in the city,” Robertson said. “If we don’t have that, we’re not going to be able to function as well as we should.”
