Residents can now follow 'clvhtspolice' on the social media site

The has launched a Twitter account to send the public non-emergency information.
The departmentβs Twitter name is βclvhtspoliceβ and its profile describes its purpose: βPutting the Police closer to the community they serve.β

The department has tweeted, or sent a message, once so far. "'Meet Your Police' - Every Thursday from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Lower level cafeteria. ."
, as the tweet describes,Β is a weekly public meeting the department hosts for residents to share their concerns with police officials, either in a group forum or privately.Β

Police Chief Jeffrey Robertson said in an interview last week that one of his priorities was to form a better relationship between police and citizens.
At that time, he was not sure whether the department would pursue social media, but he wanted to promote the meetings as attendance has declined .
βAs a police department, you got to have input from the community as to what is occurring in the city,β Robertson said. βIf we donβt have that, weβre not going to be able to function as well as we should.β
