Ask The Experts For Home Remodeling Advice — For Free

This weekend the is offering homeowners remodeling advice — for free.

The is open to all and scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24 in The free event will feature more than 20 "ask the expert" booths where people can get one-on-one advice on roofing, heating and cooling, plumbing, window and door work and more.

"Last year was the first year we did the advice tables, and they seemed to be quite a hit with people. They can come talk to people without getting a huge sales pitch," said Becky Stager, education programs coordinator for the HRRC.

Homeowners can also attend three workshops offered that day on building and installing a rain barrel, how and when to deal with wet basements and how to accent your home using paint.

Other community groups and businesses will also offer information. will be there to talk about community gardening and Kara Hamley O'Donnell, historic preservation planner for the city, will assist people with choosing exterior paint colors.

In addition, the city will have information on code requirements and lenders will talk about how to finance projects.

Kathryn Lad, executive director of the organization, said she's expecting 150 to 200 people this year.

"We’re all about people keeping their houses in good repair, because when everybody takes care of their houses, it helps make a stronger community," Lad said. "When everybody on the street is taking care of their homes, the homes are worth more."
