High-Speed Car Chase Tears Through Cleveland Heights: Police

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — A high-speed car chase tore through Cleveland Heights on Sunday evening.

At 6:50 p.m., Sirius XM contacted Heights police and told them they were tracking a stolen car. The vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was currently parked at Home Depot. However, when officers caught up to the car, it was already on South Taylor, heading toward Cedar Road.

Police tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped up and began racing away from officers, according to Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg.

The chase continued onto Fairmount and Warrensville, where the stolen car stopped and a driver and two occupants jumped out and began running from police. All three were located and taken into custody, Mecklenburg said.

The driver is now in Cleveland Heights police custody pending charges for the incident. The two occupants were taken to Cuyahoga County Jail with outstanding warrants for their arrest.

No one was hurt in the chase, Mecklenburg said.

The Camry was towed from Warrensville by police.
