Poll Workers Report High Turnout in Cleveland Heights

Every poll worker seemed to agree that there is a higher voter turnout this year than in previous off-year elections.

But at the polling locations we visited, no one reported problems, and the lines moved fast.

"It was really slow last (election)," said Dolores Posey, who was working at today. This year was steady but smooth, she said. By 1 p.m., more than 140 had voted.

Tom Hare said though it was busier than normal, people took advantage of the early voting and absentee ballot options.

"I'm guessing that they're a couple of issues on it that are hot-button issues," Hare said of the increased traffic.

Brandon Cole, a firefighter on the , was standing outside of , wearing a "Vote no on Issue 2" t-shirt. He had been outside for three hours at 4:30 p.m. and planned to stay until the polls closed.

"I'm not approaching people, I'm just here if people have questions," he said. "There's been enough talk about this that people have made their minds up a long time ago. I was just hoping if people were on the fence, I could help change their minds."

At about 5 p.m., about 200 people had voted at the polling location with two precincts, and things started to pick up.

Lee Road Library was bustling just after 6 p.m. More than 1,260 people had voted in five precincts, and others were still making their decisions and waiting to put their ballots through. And about 20 people were standing in line.

Jeff Coryell tweeted that there were problems reported at  this morning.

"Problem reported at Noble Elementary polling place this morning — first few voters given only one page of two page ballot," he wrote.
