Letter to the Editor: FirstEnergy Should Invest in Energy Efficiency

Letter from Cleveland Heights resident Christine Hoguet

Being originally from Germany, I grew up seeing the huge white wind turbines everywhere.

The Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign has recently come to my attention, and I am thrilled that there are efforts to move Ohio’s energy providers toward energy efficiency and alternative energy.

The state’s utilities, with the notable exception of FirstEnergy, have moved toward cleaner, more efficient and sustainable ways of providing Ohioans with power. It is now time for the region’s largest utility (FirstEnergy) to follow suit!

Other utilities in Ohio have shown that it makes perfect sense, economically as well as environmentally, so what’s FirstEnergy’s excuse? Northeastern Ohio is blessed with its geographic location and topography, which make the region a favorable standpoint for switching to alternative energy sources, and I think it would be foolish if FirstEnergy did not seize the opportunity for a cleaner, healthier Ohio!
