Video: Getting Ready for Heights High Prom

The process of getting dolled up has changed, but the excitement for the night remains the same

senior Jasmine Cork estimated that it took her about seven or eight hours to get ready for prom.Β 

For senior Aija Mason, beautification was a two-day procedure.Β 

Aija's mom, Lillie, was smiling as she watched her daughter get her makeup done at Sephora in Beachwood Place Mall. She said things are more "glitzy" now.

Your sisters or your mom did your hair, you did your own nails and you borrowed your parents' car, she recalled. Now, girls spend hours in salons and rent rides to take them to prom.

"Still, the excitement is still there," she said.Β

Jasmine, giddy and smiling, talked about her dress, her family getting together to send her off and how fun it was to have her nails done.

But she also called the moment "bittersweet," as she knew it was one of her final moments of high school.Β 

"You'll have a great time, but it's probably the last time that everyone will be together before we go off to college to start our lives … it's a goodbye party," Jasmine said before the night began. Β

Jasmine spent the past month shadowing midwives, monitoring pregnant women and spending time with newborns, and she wants to be a nurse midwife. She's attending Cleveland State University, and Aija plans to study fashion merchandising and will attend Bowling Green State University.Β
