Video: Safer Flash Mobs, Positive Social Media Focus of Discussion

Heights Community Congress hosted  about youth issues in Cleveland Heights at the  Monday night.

The , which Heights Libraries also organized, was scheduled just a few weeks after the , when crowds of youth filled the streets, some refused to leave and 16 teens were arrested for fighting.

The discussion Monday night centered around three main topics: social media and how the community can use it in a positive way; parent and adult responsibility; and race relations.

Three panelists led the discussion and answered questions, and attendees also asked questions and provided their input. Less than 50 people attended Monday’s meeting, which was small compared to the hundreds that crowded the  event in July. 

Michael Walker, executive director of Partnership for a Safer Cleveland, James Box, University Heights resident and project director, community outreach for the City of Cleveland’s Community Relations Board and Malik Bacchus, a junior at  were the featured panelists. 

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Libraries, Centers for Families and Children, Civic Commons, Heights Youth Club, Reaching Heights, Partnership for a Safer Cleveland and Open Doors Academy also sponsored the event.
