2 Men Accused Of Trafficking Marijuana After Being Stopped In Mentor

Two men from Lackawanna, NY, face charges of marijuana trafficking after they were stopped in Mentor shortly after midnight Tuesday.

A Mentor police officer spotted a speeding white 4-door BMW with New York plates along the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 and pulled it over, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said.

When the officer approached the car, he could smell marijuana, Zbiegien said.

Neither of Mentor's two canine officers were on shift at the time so the policeman requested the use of a Wickliffe police dog. After sniffing, the dog indicated that there were drugs in the car, which gave police probable cause to search it, Zbiegien said.

Officers searched the car for drugs and found a special compartment where the CD changer usually is. Five baggies of marijuana were inside of it, Zbiegien said.

The two men in the car -- Ahmed Kadi, 21, and Fahd Riyashi, 29 -- have been charged with felony counts of marijuana trafficking.

Police also seized their cell phones and some money they had on them.
