Guest presenter Ivy Greenbriar, an earth fairy, was accompanied by a new friend named Brzzt who did not know she was a fairy. Ivy taught the attendees about the types of fairies while they helped Brzzt figure out where she belonged.

Afterwards, kids were asked questions that placed them into one of four fairy categories so they could become honorary fairies. The categories were denoted by the elements earth, fire, wind and water.

Once assembled into their small groups, attendees were given their own fairy name before being able to decorate a fairy house with everything from glitter and jewels to pinecones and flowers. They also got the chance to make some fairy dust.

"The program was based off our summer reading theme ", said MPL Children’s Library Associate Lisa Layton who was the event's coordinator.

"The children were able to learn about fairy folklore in a fun outdoor setting and unleash their imaginations and creativity with the fairy house craft. Each fairy house came out special and unique."

Jenna Benns, 7, enjoyed the opportunity to make her own fairy house.

"This is so fun," Benns said. "I liked learning about the different kinds of fairies and getting to decorate a home for them."

The magical world of fairies came to life for the children who attended that afternoon. While leaving, one little girl even asked, "Will the fairy dust make me fly, mommy?"
