Lawnfield Hosts Events on Lincoln and Love this Weekend
In honor of Presidents' and Valentine's Days, James A. Garfield National Historic Site hosts a pair of timely events this weekend

, also known as Lawnfield, will host two special events this weekend.
The first is a showing of Abraham Lincoln: Preserving the Union 2 p.m. Saturday. The special, which originally aired on A & E, is on loan from the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Indiana. It is about 100 minutes long.
The program coincides both with Lincoln's birthday and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Lawnfield will be holding Civil War-themed events throughout the year in honor of the anniversary.
Garfield served as a Union soldier in the war before he was elected president.

Then, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, David Anderson will give a presentation about the hundreds of letters that Garfield exchanged with his wife, Lucretia Garfield.
Anderson is an English professor emeritus at Hiram College. His presentation will humanize the Garfields and present them as a husband and wife instead of a president and first lady. He will offer a unique interpretations of their correspondence and its meaning in the context of their relationship.
Both events are free. However, anyone who wants to tour the Garfields' home or museum exhibits will have to pay the regular entrance fee of $5.
