Man Tells Police It Was His First Time Selling Marijuana

What began as a traffic stop Friday night for having too darkly tinted windows ended as a pair of felony charges.

A Mentor police officer stopped the car Russell Cornman was driving because it weaved across marked lanes and its windows were tinted too darkly.

When the officer approached Cornman's car, he smelled marijuana so he searched the car.

The officer found several baggies of marijuana hidden in the trunk, according to police.

Cornman, 30, of Painesville, then tried to explain it was his first time selling drugs, according to the Mentor Police Department Facebook page.

Cornman was charged with felony counts of trafficking marijuana and possession of criminal tools. The criminal tool, in this case, refers to a cell phone.

He was arraigned Monday in . Judge John Trebets set his bond at $30,000, which has not been posted. His next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

While Cornman has no previous trafficking charges, he was convicted of petty theft in 2000 and operating a vehicle while intoxicated in 2009, according to online Mentor Municipal Court records.
