Mentor Man Admits To Fleeing Rollover Crash

A Mentor man admitted to in May.

Michael Springer, 20, pleaded guilty to reckless operation of his car and obstructing official business Thursday morning in .

Visiting Judge Paul Mitrovich fined Springer $150 on the reckless operation charge.

However, instead of sentencing Springer for obstructing official business, Mitrovich asked for a presentence report on him.

Consequently the sentencing has been scheduled for August 9.

Police say Springer lost control of his car near the intersection of Roselawn Drive and King Memorial Road. It went off the left side of the road, hit a split-rail fence and a tree before it flipped over and caught fire.

Springer and a passenger tried to run away from the crash. However, the passenger, who was charged with anything, decided against running away and talked to police, Mentor Police Sgt. Mike Majernik said.

Springer turned himself into police soon thereafter.

Majernik previously said that police believe Springer had been driving while drunk but there was no way to prove it.
