Mentor Man Found Guilty Of Kidnapping, Robbery & Felonious Assault

Clyde Scott will be sentenced Friday morning in Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas

A Mentor man was convicted by a jury today of 11 charges, including kidnapping, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, theft and having weapons under disability.

Clyde Scott, 33, will be sentenced Friday morning by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge David Matia.

Scott and 31-year-old Richard Grant, of Cleveland, robbed two men during two separate incidents on Dec. 27 in Cleveland, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office.

According to prosecutors:

  • Scott and Grant approached the first victim and Scott pointed a gun at the man and demanded money.
  • Then, Grant took the gun from Scott, pointed it at the victim's head and took his wallet.
  • Next, Grant and Scott found a second man to rob. They took his wallet and his keys.
  • Scott fired his gun toward both victims when they ran away but he did not hit either.
  • When police arrested Scott and Grant, they found some of the stolen possessions in Grant's sock.

Scott faced 12 felonies total during his trial, which began Monday. However, the jury did not convict him on one of his three felonious assault charges.

Grant's case is still pending.

According to the Cuyahoga County court docket, Scott has been convicted previously of felony weapons and drugs charges.

He was convicted in 2006 of having a weapon under a disability and sentenced to one year in prison.

In 2004, he was convicted of drug possession and sentenced to six months in prison.
