Mentor Police Arrest Man Found Driving Stolen Car

The suspect did not have a legal driver's license either, according to police

A Highland Heights man was arrested by Mentor Police Monday evening and is accused of using a stolen car.

A Mentor officer was doing spot checks on the license plates of passing cars on Reynolds Road when he noticed one of the vehicles had been reported stolen, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said.

The officer stopped the driver -- 37-year-old David Steinberger -- who is the nephew of the woman who reported the car stolen, Zbiegien said.

In addition to driving a car that was reported stolen, Steinberger also has a suspended driver's license.

Steinberger was charged with receiving stolen property. He also has two warrants out for his arrest -- one from Heighland Heights, the other one from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office.

Steinberger was arraigned in Tuesday morning in . Judge John Trebets set his bond at $13,000, which was not posted.

His next court hearing is scheduled for June 18.

Steinberger has been previously convicted of burglary, forgery and attempted menacing by stalking in Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas.
