Mentor's Adam Urbania Finds His Groove With the Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League

Returning to baseball after an unsuccessful MLB draft, Adam Urbania is tearing it up with the Tucson Saguaros.

As a Division-II All-American for Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, Adam Urbania thought that he would get a call during the 2015 MLB Draft. The call never came.

A bit disenchanted over not getting selected in the draft, Urbania went home to Mentor, took a job with Geauga County Jobs and Families Service as a social worker, collected his thoughts and figured that it was time for him to start his adult life.

Then, after six months he got an unexpected call from JD Droddy, the director of baseball operations and manager of the expansion Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League. Droddy was interested in giving Adam a shot with the expansion Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League according to Tuscon.com.

Urbania made it clear to Droddy that he wasn't on the team for fun and games he said, "I want to play my best to move up. My mindset has been go out there and play like no one has ever seen you play before."

Urbania's dream of playing big league ball is moving forward and so far, he's been doing everything right and more. In June, he's leading the team in homers and RBIs and is looking to do even more, telling Tuscon.com "My personal mentality is to get wins and try to get a championship ring. I never got a ring.”

Urbania is doing more than just playing great baseball in Tucson, he's also proving that he's a great member of the local community. Annie Kiser had this to say about Adam:

He's a wonderful representation of Ohio. We're super proud of his dedication to the fans. He was contacted by a family with a little girl who has an untreatable brain tumor. Adam went to his manager and set up a photo/meet and greet session with the team, is presenting her with a large amount of gear/souvenirs he's procured and is having her throw him the first pitch at tonight's game. He's a very caring man and we're proud to be hosting him here in Tucson!
