Trial For Mentor Man Charged With Kidnapping, Robbery & More Begins Today

Clyde Scott is also charged with felonious assault and having weapons under a disability

A Mentor man and his codefendant are scheduled to begin their trial in Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas on charges of kidnapping, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, theft, and having weapons while under disability.

Clyde Scott, 33, of Mentor, and 31-year-old Richard Grant, of Cleveland robbed two men during two separate incidents on Dec. 27, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office.

According to prosecutors:

  • Scott and Grant approached the first victim and Scott pointed a gun at the man and demanded money.
  • Then, Grant took the gun from Scott, pointed it at the victim's head and took his wallet.
  • Next, Grant and Scott found a second man to rob. They took his wallet and his keys.
  • Scott fired his gun toward both victims when they ran away but he did not hit either.
  • When police arrested Scott and Grant, they found some of the stolen possessions in Grant's sock.

Judge David Matia will oversee their trial.

According to the Cuyahoga County court docket, Scott has been convicted previously of felony weapons and drugs charges.

He was convicted in 2006 of having a weapon under a disability and sentenced to one year in prison.

In 2004, he was convicted of drug possession and sentenced to six months in prison.
