Kwanzaa Park Neighbors celebrates the Fourth Night of Kwanzaa (thetruthtoledo.com) — Neighbors are invited to celebrate the fourth night of Kwanzaa, Ujamaa, at The Padua Center on Nebraska Avenue in Toledo on Monday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. The gathering will feature traditional rituals, food, and a focus on supporting local and Black-owned businesses, with help from the Padua Center’s “Becoming Young Ladies” group.
   

2. Appellate court rejects appeals by 2 convicted for boys' 2022 disappearances, deaths (toledoblade.com subscription) — An Ohio appeals court has upheld the convictions of two men in the 2022 killings of Toledo teens Ke’Marion Wilder and Kyshawn Pittman, last seen leaving a South Toledo home. Judges ruled a disputed text about where the boys died should have been admitted but wouldn’t have changed the verdict, leaving the aggravated murder and murder convictions in place.
   

3. Toledo Public Schools outlines staffing, program cuts to address financial shortfalls (wtol.com) — Toledo Public Schools is laying out significant staffing and program cuts to close a projected 2027 budget deficit, including eliminating dozens of administrative and teaching positions. The district also warns that more drastic steps, like a four-day school week and school repurposings, remain on the table as enrollment and state funding continue to decline.
   

4. Local food reviewer starts 'Merry Canned Food Drive' to support community, small businesses (wtol.com) — Toledo food reviewer and lifelong resident Michelle Duni is teaming up with six local restaurants for a “Merry Canned Food Drive” benefiting Martin Luther King Kitchen for the Poor. Donate canned goods at participating spots like Beef N’ Bunns or Moe’s Place to receive discounts or free food while discovering new Toledo dining favorites.
   

5. TARTA board approves Jan. 25 service changes (toledoblade.com subscription) — If you ride TARTA in Toledo, expect major schedule and route changes starting Jan. 25, including more frequent buses on key lines and some route eliminations. The No. 10 will now run through East Toledo between downtown and Rossford, while evening service intervals and paratransit hours will also shift. Riders across nearly every route will see some impact.
