Speaking to the Rotary Club of Toledo, a health department supervisor and a local business owner in recovery highlighted how thousands of naloxone kits and stigma-reduction efforts are saving lives across Toledo, Maumee, Holland, and surrounding communities.
   

2. Fassett Jr. High to close for the remainder of the week due to student illness (13abc.com) — Families in east Toledo and Oregon should know Fassett Junior High is closing Dec. 16–19 after 27% of students were out sick with flu- and norovirus-like symptoms. The district, working with the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, hopes the break and deep cleaning will curb further spread while other schools remain open.
   

3. Dog attack at Whiteford Elementary prompts calls for action at Sylvania school board meeting (wtol.com) — Parents in the Sylvania Schools district, in the Toledo area, are demanding stronger safety measures after a dog ran from a nearby yard and seriously attacked a mother outside Whiteford Elementary during morning drop-off. The incident, now under review by district leaders, has prompted added security, indoor recess, and scrutiny of how quickly Toledo-area school officials communicate and respond to unexpected threats.
   

4. Thwarted Bitcoin scam highlights dangers of electronic transactions, scam calls during holiday season (wtol.com) — Police in Lucas County, including Toledo Police, are warning residents about convincing scam calls pushing victims to send money through Bitcoin ATMs and other electronic transfers. Perrysburg Township officers recently stopped a $9,000 loss, and authorities urge Toledo-area residents to watch for urgent, generic calls and to hang up and verify directly with the agency involved.
   

5. 'Fight hate with love, unity and light': Toledo Jewish community reflects after deadly Hanukkah attack in Australia (wtol.com) — Toledo’s Jewish community marked Hanukkah at Franklin Park Mall while mourning a deadly attack on worshippers in Australia, emphasizing unity and resilience. Local Rabbi Yossi Shemtov, personally connected to several victims, is urging residents to counter hate with solidarity as Chabad House prepares public menorah lightings downtown and at The Ribbon later this week.
