Toledo man accused in shooting remains on the loose (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Toledo police are asking residents for tips to help locate 26-year-old Maliq Lawson, wanted on felonious assault warrants after a December 9 shooting on the city’s east side. Authorities say he may still be in the Toledo area and are offering a cash reward for information leading to his arrest as the investigation continues.
   

2. Emergency departments and schools dealing with a surge in illnesses (13abc.com) — Toledo emergency departments are seeing a sharp rise in flu and norovirus cases, and some local schools are even closing as illnesses spread before holiday gatherings. Pediatric specialists at ProMedica urge families to focus on handwashing, cleaning, and flu vaccination, especially for children with conditions like asthma, cystic fibrosis, or diabetes, and to keep sick kids home to avoid further outbreaks.
   

3. License renewals, continuing education requirements available to Toledo contractors (toledoblade.com subscription) — If you’re a contractor, journeyman, or apprentice working in Toledo, you must renew your city license by Dec. 31, and new 10-hour annual continuing education rules start for 2026. Potential of ECHL players strike raises concerns for fans, downtown businesses (wtol.com) — A possible strike by ECHL players, including the Toledo Walleye, could seriously disrupt downtown Toledo’s winter economy, which depends on game-night crowds at the Huntington Center. Fans, season ticket holders, and nearby business owners say they’re worried about losing both the entertainment and the revenue Walleye games bring while hoping negotiations avert a work stoppage.
