The UToledo Department of Women’s and Gender Studies and the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women are hosting a roundtable conversation Wednesday, Sept. 22, to address recent events that impact women, including the Supreme Court’s decision to not review the Texas law that effectively makes most abortions in Texas illegal.

Other topics include the decision to legalize abortion in Mexico and the implications of the U.S. pullout of Afghanistan for Afghani women.
The event, titled “Intergenerational Feminist Response to Recent Policy: From Texas to Ohio, and Afghanistan to Mexico,” is scheduled for 1 p.m. in University Hall Room 4280 or via Webex.

“We created the event to provide a space for folks to talk about what’s happening, what they think about it and what we can do to support women in these different, yet similar contexts,” said Dr. Sharon L. Barnes, associate professor and chair of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.
Dr. Patricia Murphy, the former director of the Catharine S. Eberly Center, will make a few remarks to open the event.
“Dr. Patricia Murphy is a longtime activist in gender and reproductive justice,” Barnes said, “so we invited her to talk with our community about these developments.”
