Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:
- A child under five years old is in critical condition after being shot at a residence in the 1300 block of Woodruff Avenue near Detroit Avenue on Tuesday. Toledo Police were questioning the family and waiting on a search warrant. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. (WTVG)
- The Rogers High School choir is raising money for a trip to "The Big Easy" after its history-making qualification for state last year. Led by educator Dr. Joan Walldorf, several students are “singing” the praises of the class as helping them find joy in school. (WTVG)
- Jake & Cooper's Bark Park is open in Oregon and offers 2.3 acres monitored by Toledo Unleashed, which also run the Glass City Dog Park. A memorial for Jacob Schaffer, who lost his battle with addiction, the site will host the a 5-K9 Run and 1-Mile Family Mutt Strutt on May 7 "to raise funds for park equipment." (WNWO NBC 24)
- The City of Toledo is asking residents and landlords to fill out an online survey regarding the local rental market. Two separate surveys are up for tenants or landlords and hope to help assess how the city utilizes assistance resources. (WNWO NBC 24)
- The City of Maumee voted 6-1 to approve a controversial rental ordinance that requires owners to "retrofit all properties to new current standards" and punishes those that fail to do so. The council claims the move will lessen crime and blight, though opponents say the ordinance is an overreach and disruptive. (WTOL)
