Drunken Driver Leaves Accident, Parks On Curb: Westlake Police

WESTLAKE, OH — A Cleveland driver was taken into custody after hitting a car and then driving away from the accident, Westlake police said.

On July 16, at 9 p.m., a woman called Westlake police and said her car had been hit by a silver Volkswagen. After the accident, the Volkswagen drove away, police said.

Officers searched the area and saw a damaged car cruising toward the accident, police said. Officers tried to stop the car, but it drove onto a curb before coming to a halt, police added.

The driver, a 50-year-old Cleveland man, admitted to drinking at a bar before driving, police said. Officers gave him field sobriety tests and then took him into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle impaired.

He later took a breath test and was 2.5 times over the legal limit, police said.

Police later charged the 50-year-old with failure to maintain assured clear distance, operating a vehicle impaired and prohibited alcohol content.
