Youngstown police cite West Side club for serving alcohol after hours (vindy.com) — Youngstown police cited Club 211 on Mahoning Avenue for serving alcohol well past its 1 a.m. license limit, clearing out a crowd of dozens early Friday. Officers also responded to complaints about noise, racing vehicles, and overflow parking on nearby streets before ordering the West Side club to close for the night.
   

2. Saint Matthias holds final mass before entering merger (wkbn.com) — Saint Matthias parish in Youngstown has celebrated its final regular Mass as it prepares to merge with Saint Brendan’s and Saint Christine’s into the new Saint Mary Magdalene Parish. The Cornell Avenue church, with roots back to 1914 and a strong Slovak Catholic tradition, will continue for now as a secondary worship site for weddings, funerals, baptisms, and feast days, with full closure expected in about a year.
   

3. Cases of defendants representing themselves in federal court in northern Ohio spiked in 2025 (cleveland.com) — Federal defendants in northern Ohio are increasingly choosing to represent themselves in court, and all who went to trial that way in 2025 were convicted. Attorneys say some of this confidence comes from inmates at Youngstown’s Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, where access to technology and “jailhouse lawyers” may be encouraging risky do-it-yourself defenses.
