September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. It began as a fun activity between a few friends in 1995. Then, in 2002, they contacted Dave Barry, and it took off as a national holiday. Pirate fans all over now enjoy a day of seafaring language and fun! The library has some great online resources for this day.
Let’s begin with the Pirate Language which is available in Mango Languages.

Not only can you learn to speak like a pirate, Mango also provides a nifty Pirate Name Generator. You can find out your pirate name and turn your favorite authors into pirates as well. Enjoy these images of classic authors Mango has transformed into pirates:
