If you have red hair, today is your day.  Celebrate this unique color.  Only 2% of world’s population has red hair.  Historians purport red hair may have started with the Irish, but other historians believe that this recessive gene actually came from the Vikings.

Some ancient societies in Northern Africa and Rome revered red hair while other cultures in Asia and Egypt found red hair to be a bad omen.  Many women during the witch hunts in Europe were burned at the stake for having red hair.  Ancient Greece believe redheads were vampires.  Some cultures in today’s world stigmatize redheads and think that if you have red hair, you are a witch with evil tendencies.   One young man with red hair grew up in the UK and was harassed and bullied for being a redhead, that is until Ziggy Stardust came along and made it cool.
