Here are the top three stories in Oklahoma City today:

  1. In celebration of May being National Bike Month, EMBARK has serviced and returned 60 pedal-only bikes to the Spokies bike share service. National Bike Month was the perfect opportunity to upgrade bikes and bring them back into the bike fleet new and improved. There are now 113 bikes in the Spokies fleet, including 53 electric bikes and 60 pedal-only bikes. Spokies is the only bike-share service in central Oklahoma, and you can drop off these smart bikes at several different service areas. You can download the Spokies app through your mobile device's app store, and you can pay for passes daily, monthly, or annually depending on how frequently you ride. (KOKH FOX25)
  2. Residents of nearby Edmond are being notified that the city may switch to using more of the water purchased from Oklahoma City in the coming summer months. Oklahoma City disinfects its water using chloramines while Edmond uses chlorine, both are up to state standards, but some systems and at-home dialysis treatments may need adjustments. The Water Resources Department is contacting hospitals, medical care facilities, and residents who are known to use kidney dialysis systems, but it is encouraged to call 405-216-7811 with questions regarding medical conditions so you are aware. Residents are also advised to contact pet stores as this can also affect fish and their environments. (KFOR Oklahoma City)
  3. More schools in the Oklahoma City metro area are looking to install above-ground storm shelters for increased safety. Boldt Construction has worked with several schools in various districts, including Oklahoma City Schools, Norman Schools, and most recently Plaza Towers Elementary School which sustained a direct hit by a tornado in 2013, resulting in the death of seven children. Above-ground storm shelters are more comfortable than underground ones since they have more space and can even handle HVAC systems. First responders recommend registering it with the city so emergency crews are able to locate you during a storm. (News On 6)
