Here are the top 3 stories in Tulsa today:
- The city's curbside recycling program will restart on Monday following a nine-month hiatus prompted by a fire at the recycling plant. City officials are urging residents to once again begin separating out their recyclables from the trash, a practice that many households abandoned when the curbside service was paused. The City estimates that around 15,000 tons of recyclable materials were burned during the period that the processing plant was closed. (News On 6)
- The Oklahoma Alliance for Animals stepped up to cover medical costs for two dogs who were shot in their own yard on Monday night. The dogs, Veronica and Shotgun, sustained gunshot wounds to their jaws but have received a promising prognosis from their veterinarian. In addition to covering the veterinary expenses for the dogs' recovery, the nonprofit is offering a reward to anyone who has information that could help the police locate a suspect. (KRMG)
- The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is seeking volunteers following a downturn of support in the post-holiday season. Volunteers are needed to help distribute critical meals in Tulsa, where more than 4,500 children currently need daily food assistance. The food bank accepts volunteers on weekends and weekdays and currently has evening shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. (kjrh.com)
