Here are the top three stories today in Tulsa:
- Leaders from the South Tulsa Community House, Tulsa Crime Stoppers Director Karen Gilbert, three Tulsa police officers, and a Gathering Place representative took to the sidewalks of 61st and Peoria on Friday afternoon, sharing their hopes for a safer community and resources to help residents prosper. The weekly walking project was created after a collaboration meeting last year with Crime Stoppers, community members, and business owners on how to reduce crime in the area and increase trust. Part of the mission of the Friday walks is also to create more visibility for and understanding of Crime Stoppers in the 61st and Peoria community. (Tulsa World)
- State troopers arrested the driver of a semi-truck Saturday night after he drove off the road and flipped its rig in east Tulsa. The rig ended up in a ditch in which the load attached to it fell over and the trailer came to a rest on top of the cement barrier. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers took the driver into custody after he failed numerous field sobriety tests. (KOKI FOX 23)
- Tulsa Botanic Garden is preparing to build a $4 million project called the Liberty Garden. The Liberty Garden will have evergreen trees, pavilions with artisan ironwork, and a flagpole at the end of a large rectangular lawn. The Liberty Garden project is expected to take about 10 months to complete, with the adjacent lotus pool to be done by the middle of next year. (News On 6)
