CORNELIUS, OR — A Beaverton woman was arrested Thursday night after crashing her car in Cornelius while allegedly driving under the influence of methamphetamine — with her 5-year-old son in the car.

Andinet Legesse, 26, was booked and released by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, charged with misdemeanor DUII and recklessly endangering another person.

Washington County deputies contracted with the city of Cornelius were dispatched to the corner of South Fourth Avenue and South Linden Street after a 911 caller reported a "possibly impaired" driver had struck a parked Dodge truck near their house just after 11 p.m. Feb. 8.

The responding deputy, a highly-trained drug recognition evaluator, saw signs Legesse may have been impaired during their subsequent conversation at the scene, according to WCSO spokesman Jeff Talbot.

Following Legesse's arrest, her son was turned over to a family member. Department of Human Services and child welfare officials were also notified.
