A modern spillway gate installed in 2010 lets managers fine-tune releases into local creeks and the Willamette River, a change credited with removing about 300 nearby homes from the 100-year floodplain and reducing flood risk. 
2. New Lake Oswego fire station cost projection comes in higher than expected (lakeoswegoreview.com) — Lake Oswego officials are weighing a $21.22 million bond proposal to replace the aging, seismically vulnerable South Shore fire station, which could cost the average household about $114 a year. Councilors are debating design cuts, like removing community meeting space, before deciding in February whether to send the measure to voters in May.

School counselor at Lakeridge High faces criminal, state investigations (oregonlive.com) — A longtime counselor at Lakeridge High School in the Lake Oswego School District is under parallel investigations by Clackamas County authorities and the state teacher licensing agency, though officials have not disclosed why. The probes come amid broader turmoil at Lakeridge and Lake Oswego High, including the principal’s midyear resignation and multiple staff members on leave, with few details released to families.
4. Oregon receiver Justius Lowe to enter transfer portal (oregonlive.com) — A former Lake Oswego standout, Oregon Ducks receiver Justius Lowe, plans to enter the transfer portal after two seasons of limited playing time in Eugene. The three-star prospect from the class of 2022 has 27 career catches and could have two years of eligibility left if granted a medical hardship, making his next stop one local fans may want to follow.
