PORTLAND, OR —Portland Police knew that there had been a shooting early Monday morning. The nearly 100 bullet casings fund on the 6300 block of North Marine Drive backed up what the callers to 911 said was a shooting at a street racing event.

It wasn't until the Police Bureau got calls from local hospitals saying that they were treating gunshot victims who had "walked in," that they knew that there had been victims.

There was a 21-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old boy.

Police say that it's not clear if the boy was shot or hut by shrapnel. None of the injuries are considered life threatening.

While police do not yet know how many shooters there were, they say that they know of at least one and his name is Adrian Dangelo Ramirez. Police say that the 21-year-old Ramirez was also a shooting victim.

After making sure that Ramirez was treated for his gunshot wound, police charged hum with Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

After what official say was likely a weather-induced decline in street racing in the city, the numbers are back on the rise.

"Street racing is not only illegal, it can turn into a dangerous crowd event, drawing not only participants but spectators," Chief of Police Chuck Lovell said. "We are fortunate that no one was more seriously injured or killed over the weekend."

Police say that recent crowds have included children as young as 5 months old. This shooting was the 371st in Portland this year. There have been 23 homicides in Portland so far, 22 were gunshot victims.

Lovell said that the policing these events take "considerable resources.

"We must work together to hold those committing these illegal street takeovers accountable."
