1. Portland airport expects over 952,000 travelers to pass through during holiday season (kgw.com) — Holiday travel through Portland International Airport is expected to top 952,000 passengers between Dec. 19 and Jan. 5, with Dec. 19 and 28 projected as the busiest days. Travelers are urged to arrive two hours early, bring a Real ID or passport, and plan for terminal construction detours, while also enjoying pop-up holiday markets, music, and therapy animals at PDX.

2. Preservationists form petition to renovate nearly century-old Portland high school (koin.com) — Portland Public Schools is moving ahead with plans to demolish and rebuild Cleveland High School, but a group of preservationists is rallying support to renovate the nearly century-old building instead. A new Change.org petition urges the school board to reopen the design process, arguing the approved modern design doesn’t fit the neighborhood and that the historic structure could be updated inside while keeping its character.

3. East Portland neighbors grapple with city's plan to open new homeless shelter at church (kgw.com) — Neighbors in East Portland are reacting to Mayor Keith Wilson’s plan to turn the Eastside Imago Dei church near SE Powell and 148th into the city’s next overnight emergency shelter. Some nearby residents fear more crime and say they were left out of the process, while others and unhoused neighbors welcome more beds. City officials promise more details soon, including meetings with local schools.

4. Legacy Good Samaritan marks 150 years as Portland's pioneering maternity hospital (kptv.com) — Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital is celebrating 150 years as a key medical hub in central Portland, including pioneering Oregon’s first dedicated maternity hospital back in 1922. Longtime staff and former patients share multigenerational ties, while retired obstetrician Dr. Alfred Ono still volunteers, underscoring the hospital’s deep roots in the neighborhood. The story highlights how its early birthing rooms reshaped family-centered childbirth in the city.

5. Portland named 2nd best city for foodies in the country (kptv.com) — Portland just ranked second-best city in the country for foodies, according to a new WalletHub study comparing more than 180 U.S. cities. The ranking highlights Portland’s strong mix of affordability, food festivals, and unique dining experiences, beating out much larger metros like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City.
